In our 20 years of business, we’ve gone from faxing proofs and corrections to a fully paperless workflow for our print and web design projects. Not only does this dramatically reduce waste generated as part of a project, it dramatically reduces the carbon footprint of our work by eliminating the need to run energy-hungry printing machinery. Our paperless workflow also centralises all feedback from all stakeholders and provides a fully traceable workflow, helping to ensure no edits are missed in the process.
Online Proofing
Our print design proofs are transmitted via a secure, private link using Adobe’s Creative Cloud service. This allows our clients to view proofs any time, on any device, and add corrections and comments easily in an intuitive dashboard. Not only does this completely eliminate the need for wasteful paper proofs, it delivers:
- A single source of truth for all corrections instead of multiple versions of documents in email inboxes
- Instant progress reporting as our clients can see us working through the corrections in real time
- A central dashboard for designer/client interaction via comments and replies
These tools are simple to use and make our lives so much easier when implementing corrections. If you need help with this, check out our handy guide here.
Contract Proofing
For colour-critical applications, we recommend our clients get a contract proof. A contract proof is approved and handed to the printers so they can perfectly match the colours on press. We use specialist high-end local printers, DVF for this.
Online website prototypes
We won’t lie when we started out designing websites back in 2005, we used to print proofs on A3 paper and sit down with our cleints to review. Like a few things from 20 years ago, it does bring a slight cringe when we think about it! These days, we share prototypes in the same way as we share print artwork proofs, using Adobe’s XD software (although we are in the process of migrating to Figma). Like the workflow above, this means our clients can note comments and corrections on our work, making it easy for us to ensure we’ve covered everything and that our websites look and function exactly as expected.
